Rachel M. Harrison
She didn’t just survive. Twice near death, twice she chose her way back.
Surviving Him tells the story Rachel M. Harrison never planned to tell — the truth of what it costs to stay, what it costs to leave, and what it means to rebuild a life after the unthinkable. Because survival isn’t just a decision. It’s a devotion.
About the Book
Twice near death. Twice she clawed her way back. Twice she chose her own life when everything around her tried to choose differently.
Surviving Him by Rachel M. Harrison tells the truth most people never speak out loud — the truth of what it costs to stay, what it takes to leave, and what it means to rebuild a life after the unthinkable. This is the story of a woman who walked through darkness, not once but twice, and still reached for the light.
Because survival isn’t just a decision. It’s a devotion.
The Journey
It began with love that felt real — a man who exceeded every expectation. Then slowly, imperceptibly, the warmth cooled. The listening ear became a watchful eye. The dream began to crack before she could name what she was losing.
The violence escalated. The system nearly failed her. Dropped at a hospital door with no name, no help, no safety. Then released from custody — and he came back. The paper didn’t hold him. The warning didn’t stop him. It was just her, her body, her will to survive.
The moment the battle stopped being external and became internal. Not why did this happen? but what do I choose now? The quiet, radical decision to stop surviving in silence and start choosing herself — one day at a time, one boundary at a time.
Out of the wreckage came purpose. Not despite everything she survived — because of it. The woman who walked through the fire came out carrying light, and found that her story was never just hers to keep.
From the Pages
This is not a story about being rescued. No one came. This is a story about the moment I decided I was done waiting.
ForewordI was not Rachel anymore. I was his shadow. His possession. His prisoner. And in that silence, I felt myself slipping away.
Chapter 3Trauma does not follow logic. Love does not disappear overnight. And the silence he left behind was loud.
Chapter 8Peace is not something that arrives after everything is resolved. Peace is a decision. And one day, I made mine.
Chapter 17He didn’t change me. I changed me. The healing, the rising, the reclaiming — that was all me.
Chapter 23God carried me when I could not carry myself. And in that holding, He showed me something I had never seen clearly before: real love.
Chapter 25This Book Is For You If…
This book gives language to experiences that are hard to articulate — the slow erosion, the sudden violence, the aftermath nobody prepares you for.
And you still carry shame about it. Rachel doesn’t ask why you stayed. She explains the truth of why leaving is never as simple as people want it to be.
The police report. The protection order. The charges that didn’t hold. If you’ve felt invisible to the systems meant to protect you, this memoir sees you.
Not a tidy testimony. Not a polished recovery story. A raw, honest account of what the other side actually looks like when you fight your way there.
This memoir is anchored in God without being preachy. It’s the honest story of what faith looks like at the bottom — when it’s the only thing left.
Therapists, coaches, advocates — this memoir offers the kind of inside view that no clinical framework can fully capture. First-person. Unfiltered. True.
The Declaration
“The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:5
This memoir is Rachel’s declaration: I am still here. Still breathing. Still His. It is not a story about what was done to her. It is a story about what she chose when everything had been taken away — and how those choices, made quietly in the hardest moments, became the foundation of everything she now builds.
